           The UMP style open wheel modified (owm) continues to evolve every year with aggressive developments in chassis design and suspension components. The cars have more traction and turn better than in years past.

           To keep up with the improved handling characteristics of the racecars engine builders have approached the powerplants more aggressively than ever before. Improved cars provides the demand for improved engines but the focus has primarily been on more power, more power, more power and less emphasis on cooling, longevity, and practicality. A racecar that turns better and has more traction ensures a need for more power but there will always remain a limit when it comes to four 8” tires on dirt. Yes, a radical 800 hp engine is great on a big fast tacky track but we all know that is not usually the case and if it is, it’s not for long.
